Teasers/Main posters & Trailers

Teaser Poster and Trailer

Main Poster and Trailer

A teaser poster will be published months before the film is released, or even months before the film has even been made. The idea of a teaser poster is to embed the idea of the film in the public's minds so that word spreads and your film gains publicity and popularity. This is so that a company can gain as much audience and reach as possible before the film is released in order to boost viewings when it is released. A teaser poster will include a reference to the film advertised, for example a symbol which is associated with the film or even just the title of the film to get people talking about it. A teaser trailer is used with the same concept, to gain more interest than the teaser poster because it shows more detail, and gives the public a better idea of what the film is about. It is a shortened version of the main trailer, so to not give away too much detail and leaves the audience interested yet unsatisfied.
A main poster will tell the public more about the film, because it will show a more detailed image and give a release date as well as captions to entice an audience, e.g. 'Prepare for a ride through hell.' The main trailer for a horror film will include an idea of the story and an establishment of main characters as well as jumpy and scary parts to give the audience an adrenaline rush. The trailer will also give a specific release date unlike teasers which use the phrase 'coming soon' or 'this Halloween'. After having watched the main trailer, the audience will be more precise because of their better understanding of the plot of the film and who it is aimed at.
